Endangered Species at White Point
We are honoured to be home to two very unique and beautiful residents.
Piping Plover (April – August).
A migratory bird that winters south in Cuba, Bahamas etc., returns each April to shorelines like ours to nest. Since 2012, we have been a monitoring site, serving as stewards for these incredible little birds. They are our longest staying guests, checking in around mid-April and remaining until August. While their return is not guaranteed, each year we wait anxiously with fingers crossed that our families – many whom have been banded, do return. Hope you’ll join us as we conduct our beach monitoring, maybe you’ll see some of our chicks – M0, ET, EL, E4 and some of their parents X2, U3, and our darling Papa EP. Learn a little bit about our Plovers at White Point them. Become a champion, learn more with Bird Studies Canada, they’ve been our partner in protection and monitoring since 2012!
The Monarch Butterflies (late August – late September and possibly into November here at White Point)
Monarch Waystation Waypoint #22762
Seemingly attracted to the Milkweed we have been nurturing and Monarch friendly flower gardens, have rewarded us with a visit annually, with an explosion of their presence in 2019! When you find yourself here during their caterpillar-chrysalis-Monarch Butterfly season – keep watch for onsite experiences and help us monitor their numbers. If you’d like some of our Milkweed seeds, just let us know – we’d be happy if you would take some home, plant them and keep aiding the monarch in their migration south! Join the Monarch Butterfly Club with our friends from Mersey Tobeatic Research Institute. Check out our 2018 log, meet GEM and we even had one emerge in November! We’ve now registered with MonarchWatch.org as well to engage in an international monitoring program, you can too if you like. We’re #22762, one of a dozen or so in Nova Scotia.

Trails to stretch your legs
Indeed we have plenty of route and trails for you to explore. The Woodland Trail is a short loop through the woods and along the lake. The Coastal Trail loop will guide you from the ocean and around our Tidal Estuary and back to the main lodge, a 2km loop. Outside of Golf Season we invite you to do the 5km: start at the Main Lodge, encircle the perimeter of our 9 hole course and back to the Lodge! Nearby there’s Keji Seaside as well – drop by and get the map, pack some water and enjoy this coastal oasis. And we would be remiss if we didn’t mention Summerville Provincial Beach, Beach Meadows Beach, Pine Grove Park and the Narnia-like, Concrete Creations.

Explore even more here online, and in person … there is just SO much to do!

PLEASE NOTE: Schedule is subject to change without notice, please refer to your schedule of events when you check in!
