We Won! Tourism Nova Scotia WINS National Award for Lobster Crawl Press Trip

Since it’s inception, White Point has been proud to partner of the South Shore Tourism Cooperatives Lobster Crawl in February. Along with fellow tourism businesses, organizations and Tourism Nova Scotia, we’ve created an incredible collection of experiences and events showcased throughout the month of February that has whet the appetite and imagination of lobster lovers everywhere. On Aug 13th, it was an honour for our Marketing Manager, Donna Hatt, to be present in Ottawa at Go Media 2019 alongside colleague and friend, Pam Wamback , when Destination Canada announced the 2019 Explore Canada Industry (campaign) Award of Excellence was presented to Tourism Nova Scotia for their Lobster Crawl Press Trip.

Pam Wamback has been a lobster champion for decades. Having grown up along the South Shore, she knows the importance of the winter lobster fishery within our communities and as the Media Relations Specialist for Tourism Nova Scotia, she also knows there’s an appetite for lobster year-round, but especially in the winter season which offers the longest and most challenging fishing seasons. As home to Barrington, the Lobster Capital of Canada, the South Shore Tourism Cooperative partnered with Pam and her team to bring her vision for the Press Trip itinerary a reality – and then some.

Winning this award surrounded by Travel Media from around the world reaffirms the shared vision we have been working towards here on the South Shore. Redefining winter as an exciting and dynamic season to visit Nova Scotia and specifically the South Shore by showcasing and celebrating our Lobster Fishing heritage, culture, and industry is so natural, it’s shocking we hadn’t thought of it sooner!

On behalf of all of us at White Point Beach Resort, congratulations and thank you Tourism Nova Scotia for your support and assistance in showcasing the tastiest season of all here on the South Shore, Lobster Season!

The Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl’s 2019 media campaign submitted by Tourism Nova Scotia has taken home the national 2019 Explore Canada Industry Award of Excellence!

Destination Canada’s annual awards celebrate storytelling from travel media and the tourism industry that inspires travellers to explore Canada. The awards were announced at Destination Canada’s GoMedia conference in Ottawa, Tuesday, August 13th, 2019.

Recognizing the potential of the Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl to motivate travel outside of the peak tourism season, Tourism Nova Scotia partnered with the South Shore Tourism Cooperative to host small groups of media during the crawl. Travel writers and social media influencers from Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom went lobster fishing, visited lobster pounds, sampled lobster-infused beer, helped crown the best lobster roll, explored art shows and met Lucy, the Groundhog Day shadow-seeking lobster. The campaign generated extensive media coverage and some of the highest levels of engagement on Visit Nova Scotia’s social media channels.

“To say we’re incredibly proud and honoured to be partners with Tourism Nova Scotia to celebrate our lobster season would be a huge understatement,” said Donna Hatt, Chair of the South Shore Tourism Cooperative. “Being recognized nationally, in front of a gathering of international media in Ottawa, proves we are offering an experience travelers truly crave. We’re changing how people look at winter in Nova Scotia.”

This award makes the hard work and determination required to bring the Lobster Crawl festival to life worth every moment. The South Shore Tourism Cooperative has charted a course for for 2020 under Festival Director, Menna Riley and plans are underway to grow the events from over 100 in 2019 to well above that number in 2020.
