What to expect –

We’ll start the weekend on Sunday at 4 PM with a chance to meet the artist, Sharon Wadsworth-Smith, in person. Enjoy a glass of wine or local beer with nibbles while Sharon takes you through a presentation to familiarize yourself with her past work and visualize the possibilities of your own creative experience. Enjoy a walk along the shore (weather permitting) where you will shoot your own images on a cellphone, notepad, or camera or just enjoy the walk. Sharon will also have a variety of images for your use. Afterward, enjoy your Sunday evening in Elliot’s Dining Room or Founder’s Lounge with our new dinner menu.

Start your morning to fuel your creativity with breakfast. Then, at 9 AM join Sharon in Atlantic A for the start of your workshop. Enjoy an inspiring demo and then choose your subject material from your own photos or the instructors. Sharon will guide you through how to select and compose your painting. She is known for her attention to individual student’s needs and her knowledge of styles and materials. After lunch, it’s back to the classroom for an in-depth stretch of creative time. Sharon will guide you through composition, contrast, brushstrokes, and a variety of paint application methods. An emphasis will be on loose brushstrokes and palette knife application of acrylic paint.

The day will wrap up at 4:30 PM with an informal critique until 5 PM. This is a great way to end a fabulous creative daytime escape.

You may bring your own materials or leave them at home and work with the artist provided kit which includes your artist quality canvas and all the paint you need for a $25 fee. Brushes and knives will be properly cleaned or new and sterilized for your use in the classroom. Click here to view the supply information.

*This event must have a minimum of 10 people to run. No more than 12 people can participate.

About The Artist  Sharon Wadsworth-Smith

Sharon received her formal Art training in Vancouver as a Graphic Artist. She worked for several years in that field and has been painting and teaching in a variety of mediums receiving numerous awards for her work including recent awards 2018 Established Artist of the Year Award and 2018 McMichael Gallery Plein Aire Painting Award, 1st Place.

She is a prolific painter and instructor in several mediums including drawing, watercolour, oil and Acrylic. Her work in Graphic Design has given her a strong understanding of creative photography which helps her with her painting and composition.

“Movement plays an important role in my creative process. Colour is applied quickly in my initial approach to a painting. Sometimes it is used merely as an accent to the textures created using large house painting brushes and big flat palette knives as paint applicators.”

Sharon recently moved herself and her creative art practice to the South Shore of Nova Scotia.

“I felt drawn to the beauty of the area and abundant natural parks and beaches. There are perfect walks along pristine beaches with the aqua waters so clean that you can see to the bottom. It really is an artist’s playground here.”
