For Immediate Release, Wednesday January 23/19 –
Liverpool, Nova Scotia – The South Shore is about to crack open Nova Scotia’s tastiest season of all, Lobster Season. Lobster lovers, hopeless romantics and locavores are all crawling a’board to sip and savour their way through dozens of lobster-themed events packed into the 2nd annual South Shore Lobster Crawl, February 1 – 18, 2019.
Having whet their appetite with the wildly successful inaugural festival last year, Crawl goers will need to chart their course carefully to take in as many of the crustacean events as possible. LobsterCrawl.ca, the official website for the event, features more than 100 lobster and lobster-inspired dishes, rolls, events, tours and getaway packages.
Like the regions Fishing Wharves, you’ll find Lobster Crawl events in communities up and down the South Shore stretching from Barrington, the Lobster Capital of Canada , to Peggy’s Cove and all ports in between.
After going viral last year, Lucy the Lobster will be back on Groundhog Day. On February 2nd, she’ll join fellow prognosticators like Wiarton Willie and Shubenacadie Sam to offer her prediction. Crawling out of the Atlantic Ocean in Barrington at precisely 8am, Lucy will look for her shadow to determine how long winter will linger. Plan to cheer Lucy on from the shoreline in person, or follow along on Twitter or via Facebook Live as she welcomes the world to her shoreline, officially kicking off the Lobster Crawl.
Blown away by the diversity and volume of events registered for the 2019 Lobster Crawl, Donna Hatt, Chair of the South Shore Tourism Cooperative says it is exciting and inspiring.
“We’re pretty passionate about our Lobster Fishing heritage and culture here on the South Shore, and we love eating lobster. We love eating it steamed, in rolls, in our beer and linguini. We love it paired with wine and we’ll even run, cycle and throw stones for it. But most of all we want to share it with our guests, when it’s in season here on our South Shore, in winter” says Hatt.
Crawlers can begin charting their course at Lobstercrawl.ca surfing through six categories of events. Fans of eating lobster are expected to be lured into the ‘Lobster Rolls’ and ‘Sip n’ Savour’ categories while those interested in the heritage and culture will tuck into the collection of 28 possibilities under the Arts, Cultural Events and Shopping category. There’s also a great lineup of live music along the shore and for those wanting to be more active in winter, plan to include cycling, curling, hiking and even surfing in your adventure.
Wherever this years Crawl takes you, it must include Lobster Rolls! Lobster enthusiasts are rejoicing (and drooling) with the return of the signature, and expanded, Lobster Roll category. You can literally sink your claws into a different lobster roll every day of the Lobster Crawl. We have 18 Restaurants whom have carefully crafted their unique twist on the traditional Lobster Roll.
Which is the ‘best’? That’ll be determined on Sunday February 3rd at the 2019 Best Lobster Roll-Off Competition.
Get a glimpse and taste of the Lobster Rolls offered in 2019 as restaurants gather to compete for the title of “Nova Scotia’s Best Lobster Roll”. Host of the competition, The Kilted Chef, Alain Bosse, anticipates the competition will be stiff.
“In 2018, a panel of international travel media served as the judges, declaring Capt. Kat’s Lobster Shack of Barrington the winner. Rumblings amongst the restaurants suggest Chef’s intend to take the competition to a whole new level and our new panel of international judges are excited to take their seats and dig in.” says Bosse.
Nova Scotia is known for lobster, most notably as a summer experience but that is changing. Building on the success of their inaugural Lobster Crawl, the South Shore Tourism Cooperative is making waves and charting a new course that entices guests to travel to the region in winter when lobster is at its best. The cold waters of the North Atlantic boast the sweetest and fullest lobster, the key ingredient within the Crawl. February is the perfect month to escape ‘south’, pairing lobster experiences with Valentine’s getaways and take in unique events that are not available in the summer.
Travel websites, articles and blogs around the world are taking note of this winter event, as are the locals. After months of planning the Cooperative has rolled out a map with something for everyone to get out and enjoy winter in Nova Scotia. Crawl a’board, visit www.LobsterCrawl.ca and sink your claws into the tastiest season of all.
