Preparations well underway to welcome the World to Liverpool!

We’re thrilled to be HOST Property for the 100 curlers coming to Liverpool in February 2019 for the World Junior Curling Championships!
The Host Society has been working diligently in preparation – great updates were announced August 24, following their community meeting on Aug 22, 2018.

Liverpool’s preparations for the 2019 World Junior Curling Championships are well underway. A packed house was on hand August 22nd at Queens Place Emera Centre when the Host Society revealed their update and evening of announcements.

In less than six months, 100 of the World’s best under 21 year old curlers will be welcomed back to Canada, to Liverpool, Nova Scotia. With a goal to deliver the most dynamic and memorable World Junior Championships, Host Society Chair,
Greg Thorbourne, says plans are on schedule, maybe even ahead.

Launching a progressive and creative sponsorship campaign, the Host Society announced an impressive list of 16 sponsors whom they’ve welcomed to their ‘house’. Longtime community champions J & W Murphy Foundation and Mersey Seafoods Limited, led the way being announced as the 2019 World Junior Curling Championships Presenting Sponsor.

Mike Murphy, spokesperson for the Murphy family was on hand for the announcement. “We are proud to support our community and be a part of this event. For us this is a unique opportunity to help promote Liverpool on a global stage. We are fortunate to have a facility such as Queens Place, enabling us to attract a World Class event like this and showcasing our community at the same time. Our thanks to those whose hard work and support has made this event a reality”

Joining the list of supporters for the Worlds are Events Partners include Goldline as official volunteer uniform and merchandise partner; the McKiel Family owners of Oscar’s Café & Espresso Bar, Scotiabank, Belliveau Veinotte Inc. along with host properties, White Point Beach Resort, Best Western Liverpool Plus, Lane’s Privateer Inn and the Quarterdeck. Ambassatours, Tim Hortons, Culligan Water, MCT Insurance and Michelin. Rounding out the list is Brady Home Building Centre who signed on to sponsor the Youth Volunteer Program.

Stew and Cheryl Horton of Brady Home Building Centre says they were thrilled to step forward in support of the Youth Volunteer Program. “I have no doubt that Liverpool will ‘rock’ the Worlds. As passionate believers in our community, sponsoring the youth volunteer program is a perfect fit for us. Annually we contribute to initiatives that support and enable youth involvement in sport. Youth in our community will be inspired by the Worlds to pursue their dreams as well.”

Together these sponsors join previously announced partners in welcoming the world including the Government of Canada, Government of Nova Scotia and the Region of Queens. While the list is already extensive and impressive, the Host Society expects the list will continue to grow as more details are finalized.

With the launch of the Volunteer Program, the official uniform was unveiled as well. Designed by Emma Miskew of Canada’s Team Holman, the uniform jacket is unique. Thorbourne explains the design was meant to be a collector’s item. “The design incorporates the Maple Leaf for Canada; Nova Scotia is signified by the presence of the provincial tartan while Liverpool takes centre stage with the presence of Fort Point Lighthouse, which has been a cornerstone in all our promotional materials” says Thorbourne. The uniform will also be accompanied by a Volunteer Lapel Pin which also reflects the official branding designed for the event.

The Host Society says the official website for the 2019 World Junior Curling Championships is now live and includes links to the Volunteer Registration forms and the official promotional video, Welcome to Our House, which was screened for the first time at the gathering.
