Thursday August 16, 2018 – Liverpool, Nova Scotia – In less than six months, Liverpool will welcome the World Junior Curling Championships 2019. From February 16th – 23rd 100 top male and female curlers age 21 and under from around the World will converge in Nova Scotia to compete for the coveted title of World Junior Champion. The Liverpool Championship Host Society intends to sweep the athletes and their families off their feet with the support of their community.

Just a year after the official announcement, the Host Society is inviting the community to join them for an Event Update on August 22 at Queens Place Emera Centre. Greg Thorbourne says they have a long list of exciting launches, updates and news to share. “While folks have been enjoying their summer vacations, our sleeves have been rolled up working on several aspects of the event and we can’t wait to share all of the exciting details.”

Amongst the list, attendees will learn the identity of the Presenting Sponsor and who the additional Event Partners are to date bringing sponsorship partner numbers to nearly 20 at present.

After shooting footage for the official ‘Welcome to Our House’ promotional video last fall, during the Event Update the video will have its’ debut screening. Featuring several community members and locations, the video celebrates the community and expresses the excitement everyone is getting swept up in.

Additionally, the Host Society will be introducing its’ Volunteer Program that includes the unveiling of the Collector Pin and the much anticipated official Volunteer Jacket for the Championships. Thorbourne says the Championship Volunteer Uniform jacket, specially designed by Emma Miskew of Canada’s Team Holman, is destined to be a much sought after keepsake featuring not only iconic Liverpool but Nova Scotia as well.

Thorbourne says the World Curling Federation HD YouTube TV Channel site inspection team was here earlier this summer and were blown away by the community and our world-class facilities. The World Junior Curling Championships were last held in Canada 10 years ago in Vancouver, British Columbia. The World Curling Federation is extremely excited to be here next year, February 2019.

While all participating Countries have not yet been determined, joining Canada for certain are United States, Scotland, Korea, Russia, Switzerland and Sweden. The balance of teams will be confirmed in January 2019 at the World Junior-B Championships in Lohja, Finland.
