For Immediate RELEASE, June 6, 2018

World oceans day at White Point Beach ResortWhite Point, Nova Scotia – Communities around the world are coming together on June 8th to celebrate World Oceans Day. As Canada’s Ocean Playground, many visitors come to Nova Scotia to experience the ocean, but often from the shoreline. White Point Beach Resort plans to change that on Friday when then host their 2nd Annual SURF’abration.

Joined by the Surf Association of Nova Scotia, White Point Beach Resort is inviting the public to join them on the beach and in the ocean to try a variety of sports and meet fellow ocean enthusiasts. It’s a fun filled afternoon for all ages.

Rossignol Surf will be on hand offering surf lessons, something they do from May –October from the Boathouse at White Point. Candlebox Kayaking from Shelburne will be introducing ‘surf-kayaking’ and inviting guests to give it a try while Andrew Hatfield of Souwest Surf will be demonstrating kite-boarding as he skates across the sea and soars like a bird. AEON Boards has been handcrafting surfboards and will be onsite, catching rides on his creations and sharing his craft.

Darlene Norman, White Point’s Recreation Director says World Oceans Day is the perfect excuse to get out and try something new. “We’ve pulled in  many of our partners for SURF’abration. You can suit up and try surfing or surf kayaking for the first time. To really appreciate the ocean, you really do need to experience it by getting in the ocean. Feeling its powerful surf, saltiness and yes the chill is really the most exciting way to enjoy the ocean.”

The Resorts’ World Oceans Day event is part of their 10 day celebration running June 1 – 10 this year in honour of their 90th Anniversary. SURF’abration takes place on from 3:00pm – 5:00pm at White Point Beach Resort on Friday June 8. The event kicks off at the Boathouse then heads for the beach. Free for overnight guests and members, Day Passes available for day guests.
