Andrew Burgess – Drift
Standing at 6ft tall, this unique piece of art is formed into the shape of a surfboard with the use of natural materials such as weathered lumber, driftwood and metal. A surfboard isn’t worth riding if there aren’t any waves, so there’s a beautiful airbrushed wave in the centre of the sculpture named “Drift”.
After high school, not knowing what Andrew wanted to do for a career, but always enjoyed creating art, he completed a Digital Animation program at Nova Scotia Community College. Even though he didn’t pursue it as a career, he did acquire new skills of creativity. After graduating, he became a carpenter, but dabbled in art; he was asked to create a few company logos here and there and eventually was asked if he could airbrush a motorcycle. At the time, he had no idea what airbrushing involved, but said he’d do it and he has been airbrushing ever since.
