Alana Hirtle and Dave Broadbelt of White Point Beach Resort have achieved the meeting industry's highest standards of professionalism -- and they have the certification to prove it. Aided by several years of experience, Dave and Alana each completed an in-depth examination designed by the Convention Industry Council (CIC) to test their knowledge of meeting management. The exam, which was held on July 20th, 2002, was written by hundreds of professionals in 25 cities throughout North America. Alana and Dave recently received the exciting news from the CIC that they had attained the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation. This makes White Point the first resort in Atlantic Canada to have Certified Meeting Professionals.

With over 30 years of combined industry experience, Alana and Dave were already very confident about their capabilities however, as Dave points out, it's very satisfying to receive recognition from his peers in the industry: "By becoming a Certified Meeting Planner, I have attained one of my professional goals. It's very satisfying for me to be recognized for the training, experience and caliber of professionalism that are acknowledged through this certification process."

Alana is very pleased about what this designation will mean to her clients: "I believe knowing that I have successfully completed this course and attained the CMP professional designation can only serve to boost my client's confidence that I understand the complexities of the industry and can work with them on their terms from budget development to debriefing."

Established in 1984, the CMP designation was designed by the Convention Industry Council to increase the standards of professionalism amongst meeting managers at all levels of the meeting and convention industry. To date, 7990 individuals have earned this designation and it is now recognized throughout the continent as the standard of achievement in the industry. Clients who are served by professionals with this designation can expect to receive services that surpass their highest expectations.
