We’re excited to welcome our four featured Nova Scotian musicians – Shirley Jackson, Jason Price, Ian Janes, and Guy Paul Thibault. Shirley, Jason, and Ian will each be doing a 45-minute jam session on Friday night in Founder’s Lounge. And on Saturday, all songwriters will be participating in a songwriters’ circle. It will be an intimate evening where these storytellers will perform their own classics, chat about their work and collaborate musically.

Shirley Jackson
Shirley Jackson’s songs are laced with life experience and honesty that cannot be overlooked. The inspiration comes from a life force that has chosen to lend her the words to write songs and arrange the music not only for a solo performance but also for the horn-powered jump, blues, swing band from Halifax; Shirley Jackson & Her Good Rockin’ Daddys.
The recipient of two Toronto Maple Blues Awards for ‘Horn Player’ (2018 & 2003) as well as nominations in 2013 and 2017, four ECMA Award nominations, four NSMA nominations and Music Educator of the year 2019.
Growing up in a small Alberta town, Shirley has been blazing trails for women in music for 35 years as a singer, songwriter, drummer, guitarist and an award-winning saxophone player. Since moving to the Maritimes in 1988 she has been leading the Good Rockin’ Daddys and the Jackson & Wirchenko duo across the nation performing in theatres, venues, house concerts and headlining festival stages.
Jason Price
Jason Price is a singer/songwriter from Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia. Jason’s “True Roots” brand of Country Music brings the flavor of current country with hints and honest tones of classic country music. His Nashville recorded debut album, Grit, Guts and Country Pride, which was nominated for ECMA Country Recording of the Year (2017). Jason had the opportunity to travel to Kuwait to play for the Canadian and US military troops. Jason is a storyteller- he captivates his audience with his easy-going demeanor and authenticity. When you watch Price perform, you cannot help but feel country. He is currently working with producer, Jason Barry, on his sophomore album, set to be released in the spring of 2020.
Ian Janes
Ian Janes is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer living in Nova Scotia, Canada. Janes’ 2017 release Yes Man was given 4 out of 5 possible stars by Rolling Stone France, nominated for four 2017 Music Nova Scotia awards and nominated for ‘Pop Recording of the Year’ at the 2018 East Coast Music Awards. In February 2019, Ian co-wrote and recorded music for the Emmy-nominated HBO documentary series “The Case Against Adnan Syed”.
In March of 2017, CMT’s “Nashville” closed it’s ‘mid-season finale’ with Ian’s song “Can’t Remember Never Loving You” as performed by the show’s two stars, Charles ‘Deacon’ Esten and Connie ‘Rayna” Britton. The song was co-written with veteran Nashville songwriter Byron Hill (George Straight, George Jones, Ray Charles). Between the soundtrack version and Ian’s own version (released January 2018), the song has been streamed over 900,000 times on Spotify alone.
Guy Paul Thibault
Guy Paul Thibault is one of Nova Scotia’s busiest singer-songwriters, performing over 200 shows each year throughout Atlantic Canada. He is loved by audiences for his marathon shows, his stories and his knowledge of the history behind the songs he performs, both his originals and fan favourites from every genre and era. His show is known as the essence of the heart of the east coast music scene.
In 2017 Guy Paul returned to the recording studio and released “It’s About Time”, followed up by 2019’s “The Road Between”. Both albums have received wide critical acclaim, rave reviews and have produced numerous top 10 most requested songs on independent radio worldwide, from Australia and South Africa to the USA and Europe. On one independent station in New Jersey he has had consecutive singles chart on their most requested Top 10 for 3 years straight.
Having proudly written, produced, recorded, mixed and mastered his albums in his hometown of Cole Harbour Nova Scotia, his album “The Road Between” was awarded International Album of the Year 2019 from the International Singer-Songwriters Association (ISSA) in Atlanta Georgia. Guy Paul was also nominated in 7 other categories from the ISSA including recording engineer, male performer and male vocalist.
Guy Paul has continued his busy pace as a recording songwriter, releasing a continuous stream of singles and new songs in 2020.
Highlights of his success as a solo recording artist in recent years include New Vision Radio’s (New Jersey) ‘Artist of The Year 2018’ along with having continuous Top 40 hits on independent stations worldwide. Guy Paul has been named a ‘Top Indie Artist’ on Ontario’s Q108 and KB Radio, Australia’s 89.5, Texas’s Zootopia Radio, and continues to be a top- spotlighted artist on Sackville Nova Scotia’s CIOE. As well as being a regular interviewee on dozens of independent radio stations worldwide.
His critical acclaim and popularity have garnered him nominations for Nashville’s coveted Josie Awards, where he was nominated in multiple categories several years running. His success and recognition as a songwriter also saw him nominated for ‘Male Vocalist of The Year’ from the Nashville Universe Awards.
