Scotiable Ottawa 2014 … just like Old Home Week!
On Friday April 4th, Nova Scotians & friends from all over the Ottawa area convened at the Lunenburg Pub for our 3rd Annual SCOTIABLE 2014!
With an RSVP list of 200, it certainly felt like we reached, and exceeded that as folks, just like back home just come along knowing they’d be welcome… just like a good old Family Reunion!
Bluenosed upon arrival, friends and family gathered to rekindle their ties to Nova Scotia, get the latest news from home and meet new friends – including our Team from Nova Scotia who were in town for the Ottawa Travel Show.
As the room filled, out came the Nova Scotia treats including lobster rolls – and our newest creation “The Scotiable”, a spiced rum and VanDykes Blueberry Juice infused cocktail. Thanks to our partners Nova Scotia Tourism, Yarmouth & Acadian Shores and Destination Halifax, we sipped, savour and socialized the night away!
Thanks to the gang from Saltscapes Magazine, we sent many home with fantastic T’s and infant Onesies that were a huge hit…especially with Mom’s to be and Grandmoms, along with Magazines, Postcards.
Of course back by popular demand, Keith’s was on tap with plenty of goodies for the gathering – ball caps, t-shirts, bottle openers and more.
Taking home Nova Scotia gifts are always popular and offered again this year were a number of experiences….2 nights at White Point Beach Resort, 2 nights at Atlantic Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre, a beautiful (and delicious) basket of goodies from Taste of Nova Scotia, and a special additional this year – passage for two onboard the new ferry cruise ship, the Nova Star, which sails between Portland, Maine -Yarmouth, Nova Scotia starting May 15/14.
Surrounded by laughter, familiar family names, sounds from home echoed throughout the Pub (albeit better heard at one end of the room than the other) as the Ceilidh Trailers took to the stage…and the toes started tapping. They are rooted in the locally based Cape Breton Session in Ottawa.
And that lovely lobster Larry. Well he became the focus of may ‘selfies’ and went home with a Nova Scotian promising to return soon.
For 3 years now, it has been a pleasure to create and host ‘Scotiable’ in Ottawa. The chance to bring you all together, share some laughs, sign the Nova Scotia Flag and rekindle your connections and passion for home is an honour. Huge thank you to our sponsoring partners all named above for their support in making the event possible.
‘Scotiablers’ you are the best ambassadors in Ottawa for Nova Scotia, if you can’t make it home this year, we know you will share your passion and enthusiasm with others – sending friends, colleagues and family home to our shores!
Scotiable 2015…Plans are in the works for next year, location may change but expect ‘Scotiable’ will always remain the largest family reunion of Nova Scotians in Ottawa…unless you end up here in NS before then!
Here are some pics from ‘Scotiable 2014’! Thanks to the Lunenburg Pub for sharing pics their team took…grab and share yours on our Scotiable Facebook Page
